On our English pages, you often see the word "relationships". This is just sanitized language. On our English pages, "relationships" refers to what couples, when not sleeping, do in bed. Or, if so inclined, on the kitchen table.

English is a rather hypocritical language. Many words for natural bodily functions and processes have dirty connotations, and polite speakers like us have to go to considerable length to communicate meanings without naming them. But we nevertheless hope you get the point.

Tongkat ali's active ingredients have not been identified... but it's probably not eurycomanone

There are hundreds of specific chemicals present in tongkat ali roots. They mostly belong to the following classes of chemicals:

steroids

quassinoids

coumarins

alkanoids

anthraquinone

triterpenes

flavonoids

The most prevalent ingredient of tongkat ali root, of course, is cellulose (fiber).

Of the more complicated chemicals, two are fairly easy two detect:

eurycomanone and eyrycomanol

Both are quassinoids.

Because eurycomanone is typical for tongkat ali and because it can be detected by liquid chromatography, it has been suggested that eurycomanone is used as a marker chemical.

This means that if an unknown substance is run through a liquid chromatograph, and the absorption pattern of eurycomanone shows on the filter paper, then one can assume that the unknown compound is tongkat ali, or contains tongkat ali.

This has nothing to do with an analysis of what causes the testosterone and libido boosting effects if tongkat ali.

A marker is a chemical that IDENTIFIES a substance. This is different from EFFICACY, the effect-causing chemical.

The effects of tongkat ali and tongkat ali extract may be caused by alkaloids or steroids, or any yet unresearched or undiscovered chemical constituents of tongkat ali root. If you have a faible for chemistry, you can see a yet uncompleted list of chemical constituents of tongkat ali roots below.

One thing is sure: any claim of standardization to certain levels of eurycomanone is cheap propaganda, not science.

If you consider buying tongkat ali, don't be so gullible. Buy something with government approval. That gives you at least some protection.

Here, for those chemically inclined, an expanded list of the not-yet mentioned chemical constituents of tongkat ali. Any of them may be responsible for the desired effects. Most likely, several compounds work in unison.

Squalene-type triterpenes:

eurylene

14-deacetyl eurylene longilene peroxide

Further:

n-pentyl â-carboline- 1-propionate

1-hydroxy-9-methoxycanthin-6-one 5-hydroxymethyl-9-methoxycanthin-6-one

19 known ß-caroline alkaloids

3 ß-caroline lkaloids

1-hydroxy-9-methoxycanthin-6-one

1-hydroxy- 9-methoxycanthin-6-one

Two biphenylneoligans:

2-hydroxy-3,2’,6’-trimethoxy-4’-(2,3-epoxy-1-hydroxypropyl)-5-(3-hydroxy-l-propenyl)-biphenyl

2-hydroxy-3,2’-dimethoxy-4’-(2,3-epoxy-1-hydroxypropyl)-5-(3-hydroxy-1-propenyl)biphenyl)

Another 27 quassinoids:

eurycolactone D, E, F

eurycomanone-type C20 and C19

one klaineanone-type C20

six eurycomalactone-type C19 quassinoids

An epoxy group type of eurycomalactone

pasakbumin-C

13a, 21-epoxyeurycomanone eurylactone

eurycomaoside

Furthermore, for comprehensiveness, there are also 83 volatile compounds, including:

3-phenoxy-1-propanol

2-phenoxy-ethanol

4-ethynyl-4-hydroxy-3 5, 5-trimethyl-2-cyclohex-1-enone

benzoic acid

acetic acid

octanoic acid

Good relationships like crazy

By Serge Kreutz

For relationships enhancement, nothing beats a stack based on mucuna pruriens, the velvet bean.

Mucuna pruriens by itself already has a great reputation for heightening libido. The plant naturally contains L-dopa, which the brain converts into dopamine.

Mucuna pruriens can be used, and is used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, a chronic illness characterized by a lack of dopamine in the brain, causing movement impairments.

That is the one side of dopamine. The other side of dopamine is that it plays an important role in human relationships desire.

This is well documented. Extreme relationships motivation, even in men who have had zero relationships life for two decades, is a known potential side effect of Parkinson’s medications. If you ever encounter a relationships-crazed old man, a man whose relationships agitation warrants psychiatric attention, it's going to be a Parkinson’s patient on L-dopa.

Article continues below printscreens

Parkinson’s sufferers usually are put on synthetic L-dopa, combined with carbidopa to counteract the nausea that can accompany L-dopa. The dosages of synthetic L-dopa for Parkinson’s are up to 5 gram per day.

The effect of consuming 1 gram of synthetic L-dopa or 20 grams of mucuna pruriens containing 5 percent (1 gram) of L-dopa will be somehow different. This is the case because of numerous cofactors in mucuna pruriens.

Cofactors make a difference. Take for example opium. Opium contains about 12 percent morphine. But the effects of opium are much wider than the effects of the isolated morphine. While the physiological impact may be about the same, opium also makes for pleasant dreams.

Correspondingly, the 1 gram of L-dopa in 20 grams of mucuna pruriens has a more pronounced effect on libido than 1 gram of synthetic L-dopa. And more cofactors can be added by stacking other relationships enhancement herbals on top of the mucuna pruriens extract.

First stacking choice would be hormonal enhancers like tongkat ali and butea superba. Another hormonal libido support could be added in the form of fenugreek. And then there are vascular agents like kaempferia parviflora (krachai dam) and boesenbergia rotunda (ton krachai) which translate libido into erections.

A great advantage of stacking regimens is that one can consume a large amount of nutrients that support different parameters of relationships function, and maximise effects while minimizing side effects. Side effects typically are an occurrence of a large dose of just one relationships enhancer, or, for that matter, any medicine.

Users of mucuna pruriens, or those interested in supplementing mucuna beans for brain health and relationships parameters, should be aware of the fact that great differences exist as to the quality of different mucuna pruriens strains and products.

The L-dopa content of mucuna pruriens samples investigated for the treatment of Parkinson’s varied from about 0.5 percent to more than 6 percent. See this study published by the US Institutes of Health:

But that's not yet it. In India, mucuna pruriens is planted as a feedstock, and these dirtcheap mucuna pruriens cultivars are practically void of L-dopa, with contents in the range of 0.1 percent.

What we sell is a Thai mucuna pruriens strain which is a direct descendant from wild mucuna pruriens, and in worldwide comparison, that's the strain with the highest content of L-dopa and libido-supporting catalytic cofactors.

Any mucuna pruriens that you can buy in American or European healthfood stores is most probably worthless for relationships enhancement. That is something anybody can easily test by oneself.

Dopaminergics in higher dosages, including high-dosage mucuna pruriens, have an emetic effect. In plain speak: they can induce nausea and vomiting.

This is so certain an effect that dopaminergics are used as emetics (drugs to induce vomiting) by physicians and vets.

For somebody not accustomed to mucuna pruriens, a large dosage of the genuine stuff will cause nausea. If it doesn't, then a lower dosage won't augment libido either.
